ADDED PACE: Sam Peters shapes as a key inclusion for Tarrawingee. PHOTO: Marc Bongers

TARRAWINGEE will be counting on its added midfield depth to bridge the gap to the top three sides in Ovens and King football this year.

Coach Trevor Edwards conceded the Bulldogs had plenty of ground to make up after being blasted out of the premiership race in 2015 with a 69-point elimination final loss to Bright.

“We really go into this year as a middle-of-the-road side,” Edwards said.

“We fell away from those top sides last year – our midfield was exposed against Bright, Glenrowan and Milawa – so we need a fair bit of improvement if we want to catch up.

“While they had their eight or nine guys rotating through, we were a bit predictable with the five or six that we ran through the middle.

“So hopefully the addition of guys like Sam Peters, Danyon Hearn and Michael Cornish – who only played 10 minutes last year – will give us that bit of extra depth that we need.”

Edwards said the new recruits had slotted in nicely at the Kennel.

“Sam Peters hasn’t missed too many sessions – he is looking like he will be very handy,” he said.

“He has great pace and is a good user of the ball, so I’m excited to see how he goes once the real thing starts.

“Nick Stebnyckyj has come across from Greta and he has been training really well, and Danyon Hearn looked really good in our intra-club match.
