At the Major League meeting held a couple of weeks back it was discussed the issue of spectator behavior during our finals campaigns, and were in agreement to a person that it was one of the biggest challenges we face in the next month of hosting football and netball in regional Victoria.
Often the poor behavior of a few can spoil a day for many at the country footy, particularly during the finals which seem to have a different set of ‘ground rules’ for those attending.
To underpin the importance of everyone enjoying our great weekend “institution” of football and netball the WorkSafe VCFL are proud to launch the GOOSE CAMPAIGN.
The campaign has a simple message for all involved in our great sports - to not make a ‘goose’ of yourself through inappropriate behaviour in a way that spoils the experience for spectators (kids and families), umpires, players, coaches, volunteers and sponsors.
Should people cross the line of unacceptable behavior, they should rightly be labeled a ‘goose’.
Should such behaviour not be brought into check, then the ‘gooses’ will be no longer welcome at venues around regional and rural Victoria.
With finals now upon us it is more than an appropriate time for everyone to get fair dinkum and ensure that we all enjoy this great part of our year in a positive and safe environment.
