Where your club is at pre Christmas

It's the time of year where everyone has a fresh start, from the club to the individual, premiers to wooden spooners.

Clubs have done majority of their recruiting with possibly one or two more recruits to soon join the core group in the new year.

Below is a brief overview of where each club is at just before the Christmas break.

Bonbeach – Coach Steve Hughes “We have mixed it up this year with some sessions at the club and others at external locations, and it has been a solid pre-season so far, averaging over 40 each session with a core group of 30 that have been to every session. New recruits have been settling in well, and we look to me much more stable this time of the year compared to where we were last year.”

Chelsea – Coach Brett Dunne “Pre-season has been a hard one for the boys, as the strength and conditioning coach has been putting them through a fair bit. This year we will have a very young list as we are looking to reward and focus on our under 19’s and reserves players who made finals last year. The recruits that we have brought in have been great for all of the younger boys and will no doubt put us in a good place when we return.”

Edi-Asp – Coach Graeme Yeats “Been challenging losing a few top end players, but we still have 40 blokes turning up to each session. We have 3-4 senior player’s returning to the fold and also adding in some of our recruits we think that it will help our structure and depth. We will be focusing on developing our younger player this year, and really our main aim with that younger group is to finish in the bottom half of the top 5 as we did in season 2015.”

Frankston YCW – Coach Scott Mathers “It’s been a quieter pre-season this year compared to the last few. We haven’t actively gone recruiting players this season but rather focused on retention, and we have been successful in doing so. We came back a bit later than most clubs, but not to say the boys haven’t done their work, but we feel we have some good stability in the group.”

Karingal – Coach Michael Treip “There is a really good vibe down at the club, as we have had 55-60 most nights at training which included the under 19’s but the core of the group has been the senior players. So far been really enjoying the coaching role, found it to be an easy transition. The club is excited where we currently are.”

Langwarrin – Coach Brad Drege “We have had good numbers so far with 40-50 each session. We are concentrating on our junior development and trying to build a better pathway of rewarding our own home talent. Coming into a senior coaching role it has been really eye opening and definitely have to take management to the next level but I have had some great support around to help out.”

Mornington – Coach Chris Holcombe “Only had 6 session before Christmas. We have a new fitness instructor this season and new assistant coach who have been taking most of the sessions. It has been more of a laid back approach this year to make sure the boys a fresh from return during the Christmas break.”

Mt Eliza – Coach Troy Shannon “The pre-Christmas training went really good. We had a later start than usual due to the under 19’s and reserves making the grand final. But there have been big numbers at training with lots of enthusiasm. Our recruits have also not missed a beat at training and are looking good fitting in with the team. The other senior boys were really disappointed after last season so have been working hard to rectify that.”

Pines – Coach Paddy Swayn “The whole program has been going well. We lost a few players but have also gained some great recruits for the upcoming season, and we may still get some more. There will be plenty of opportunity for all of the younger blokes this season, who have really been putting in hard so far.”

Seaford - Coach Ben Murphy “Been great numbers to training for the stint before Christmas. The boy’s enthusiasm is up and about and they are really looking forward to the season this year. We have pick up a few recruits, which will help our push up the ladder."

Crib Point – Football Manager Duane Annable “Happy with the turnout so far. We have been getting 30-40 on the every night and our under 19’s don’t start until Jan. Recruiting has been very successful, and Taylor has settled into the coaching role quiet well.”

Devon Meadows – Coach Glenn Michie “Pre-season is going really well for us, with 30 plus blokes getting to 3 sessions per week. The boys are really embracing the program that has been run by Steve Roberts, who is doing a fantastic job of getting them ready for the season coming up. We are went right up until the 23rd December for training.”

Dromana – Coach Rikki Johnston “It has been a solid pre-Christmas pre-season. We’ve had 11-12 new faces down at the club, that have complement our young under 19’s that will come up to play senior football. So far really enjoying the role and the challenges it is bringing.”

Frankston Bombers – Coach Beau Muston “We have had good number through that time. We actively recruited players that were locals or past players, and they will add some needed experience to the young group of player that we currently have.”

Hastings – Coach Brendan Dunne “Solid start to pre-season as the boys have been training hard, with lots of running. Real positive so far is that we haven’t had any injuries which will hold us in good position coming back after Christmas. The new recruits are all settling well and will add some depth to our midfield stocks.”

Pearcedale – President Trevor Ellery “Numbers have been up and over 25 every session. There has been a few young blokes return to the club along with 3 boys back from the VFL will no doubt help us next year.”

Red Hill – Coach Tony Blackford “The start of pre-season is going well. We lost a few player to retirements but also have recruited well to fill those voids. The new recruits have brought about a great energy to the club, and will certain help our drive into the new season to go that one step further.”

Rosebud – Coach Michael Karska “Been great numbers so far, and the boys are really training hard. For myself it has been a seamless transition and loving the role.”

Rye – Coach Josh Moore “Good numbers to the pre-season so far. The boys are really hurting after missing out on playing finals all together last year so as a club we are looking to make amends this season. We’ve had a couple of retirements but kept our list intact along with adding a few recruits to the group and there could be some more to come.”

Somerville – Coach David Hurst “We are going well in our pre-season so far. The boys have come back in terrific shape. They are all certainly disappointed from last year’s result but they are looking to rectify that. We have added four new blokes to the side which will continue to add depth. Mid-January is when we will head back, as with an early start you need to be ready.”

Sorrento – Coach Nick Jewell “The start of the pre-season has gone really well. We have added in 3-4 good recruited to the side and have an exciting bunch of under 19’s coming through ready to play senior football. A change of voice and structure has really given the boys a spark and fresh lease on the team.”

Tyabb – Coach Mark Paganoni “Training has been going pretty well. We have added some depth to our list now and really looking to turn our culture around. Been getting 30 plus each night to the sessions and the boys have been taught a fair amount in that time, but they seem to be absorbing the information as there has been vast improvement.”
