MCDFNL Coaching Appointments

Four more pieces of the coaching puzzle have fallen into place ahead of the 2013 MCDFNLseason.

Maryborough Rovers, Lexton, Talbot and Maldon have all announced their senior football coaches for next season.

Incumbent coach Scott Sellers will take the reins for another season at Rovers, with the club likely to add at least one assistant coach to the mix before the beginning of the season.

Sellers, who coached the Magpies in 2011 alongside Jamie Elliott, took over last year and lead the side to a finish just outside the competition’s top eight.

Talbot has also decided to re-appoint its incumbent coach, with defender Troy Cunningham set to serve as senior coach for another year.

In his first year as coach in 2012, Cunningham said he would focus on rebuilding the club’s senior side, and produced some good results, with the Hawks pushing some of the competition’s top teams.

Following the departure of Shane Fisher after two years at the helm, Lexton has promoted 2012 assistant coach Paul Phillips to the number one role ahead of 2013.

Phillips, who represented the MCDFNL at interleague level in 2012, will be assisted by full forward and 2012 MCDFNL leading goalkicker, Matt Brown.

Lexton football manager, David Impey, said the club was confident Phillips, who has been with the Tigers for the past two seasons had the right attributes to continue Lexton’s success.

Maldon, meanwhile, has named Michael Romero as its new leader for 2013.

Romero, a 32-year-old ruckman who will be a playing coach for the Dons, has spent time at Chiltern, Albury, Campbelltown, Cairns Saints, Boronia and Macorma football clubs, and will take on his first senior coaching appointment with the club.

Romero will be assisted by a three-man group consisting of current senior player, Mark Folwell, club stalwart Brett Williams and former Eaglehawk player, Damien Hall.
