East Geelong has fallen to sixth position on the ladder despite a 72-point win over Inverleigh on Saturday. Their finals hopes now do not soley rest in their hands.

After last week’s disappointing thumping at the hands of Thomson, East Geelong came out firing, kicking 4.7 against the breeze in a strong opening term.

Inverleigh did not match up well against East Geelong, and struggled to beat the Eagles defence who kept the Hawks goalless in the first quarter.

The Eagles accuracy woes continued in the second quarter, but they were able to address this in the second half, kicking seven goals each side of the main break, despite having fewer scoring shots after half time.

Josh Bouwman was powerful at centre half-forward once again, kicking three goals, while Ryan Closter made a big impact playing on the ball and across half-forward.

The Eagles need another win next week against Corio to keep them in contention for a finals spot should North Geelong defeat Bannockburn, as they now trail the Magpies by a bit over 10 per cent on the ladder.
