Introduction

As my first contribution to Redbacks Coaches Corner I would very much like to thank the club for it’s warm welcome. It has been an exciting couple of weeks since starting in my new role and it is certainly pleasing to see the enthusiasm and commitment around the club.

I thought I should briefly introduce myself and welcome everyone to make contact or have a chat when you see me around the club. I love my sport and have been very fortunate to have a long association with sport in both my physiotherapy career, my coaching and in the past playing.

It was a long time ago but I was lucky enough to play a couple of seasons with the East Fremantle Football Club along with playing my basketball. I managed to play in the very first SBL season with Geraldton. Interestingly we lost the SBL Grand Final that year to Perth Redbacks. As a first challenge to everyone it might be interesting to work out who played for Redbacks that year – 1989.

Being a Sports Physiotherapist I’ve been fortunate enough to work a great majority of the last 20 years with involvement in elite and sub-elite sport, having spent most of the last decade working with Fremantle Football Club in the AFL, along with many years in the WAFL and SBL plus some international experience at World Championships etc.

My role here is obviously a coaching role building on my long experience coaching many years in the WABL and SBL systems. I have had the privilege of coaching at a number of National Championships representing WA at both under 18’s and 20’s. I am currently the Head Coach of the WA under 20’s team competing in Canberra this coming February.

I’m very much looking forward to the future at Redbacks and very excited to be part of the club.

Hopefully I can make future contributions to the ‘Coaches Corner’ a little more exciting.
