Bronze Medal

In exciting news for WA and Perth Redbacks(with both player and coaching representation),whenthe Under 20’s Women’s State team came away from the recent National Championships with a Bronze Medal win and the Men’s team a Silver Medal.I have a little more inside knowledge of the girls result so apologies for the biased report but it was a great result for WA.

In a what turned out to be a close playoff game the WA team scored off an inbound playset in the last second of the game to secure the win after SA had managed to tie the game with only 5 seconds remaining. Great composure was shown by the girls to execute the play and create a successful scoring opportunity to win the game in the last second. It proved a tournament of close games with a number of games throughout the week being decided by close margins, in fact we only qualified for the Bronze Medal playoff game by a 1 point margin win earlier in the week.

Tournament play certainly creates a different environment to a full season with playing at least 1 and often 2 fully timed games each day, lots of video scouting and attempting to make quick adjustments game to game. WA lost to SA 2 days before the playoff game but came out with good intent and ultimately won the Medal!

The WA Mens’ Under 20’s won the Silver Medal unfortunately losing to Victoria in the playoff game after having a unbeaten run into the gold medal game.

A great week for Basketball in WA.
