Redbacks Cast Spell over Magic
The Perth Redbacks’ men’s State Basketball League team had a 119 to 113 away-game win against Mandurah Magic.
The high-scoring game was competitive throughout with the score being tied on seven occasions, the lead changing 10 times and the largest gap being nine points.
Redbacks power-forward Lee Roberts was the game-high scorer with 36 and 15 rebounds while small-forward Stan Okoye was their next highest scorer with 35 along with five rebounds and two steals.
Centre Dennis Tawhiti had 14 points and five rebounds while shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 14 and brought down four rebounds.
The win sees the Redbacks’ men move up one place to fifth in the 14-team competition with 10 wins and eight losses.
The Redbacks’ women’s team lost 51 to 83.
Redbacks’ centre Alix Hayward was their highest scorer putting in 16 points and bringing down 15 rebounds, while shooting guard Jess Hughes continued her strong rookie season in scoring 12.
They remain in 12th place in the 12-team competition after having failed to secure a win this year in 15 games.
The State Basketball League action continues this Saturday for the Redbacks when they take on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns in an away fixture at the Ray Owen Sports Centre in Lesmurdie, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
