The Perth Redbacks are excited to announce we have signed the 2013 Big South Conferences Player of the Year, Stan Okoye from VMI (Virginia Military Institute), as an import for the 2014 SBL season. Okoye earned All American Honourable Mention by dominating the competition in college averaging 21.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and is currently a member of the Nigerian National Team.

Okoye is the only player in Big South History to have amassed over 2000 career points, 900 rebounds and 100 block shots during his college career at VMI, a record which has him on the radar of NBA scouts.

The 6'6 SF/PF shot 50% from the field over his college career and 37% from the three point line.

Stan creates a match-up problem, he can play inside with his back to the basket, shoots the 3 well and drives with explosive power, and his 7'2 wingspan will be an asset on defence," said coach Nik Lackovic from the Perth Redbacks.

 "Stan's a tough kid, a mentally strong kid and that's what really stood out to me outside of his college numbers. I mean at VMI (Virginia Military Institute) they put a lot mental and physical pressure designed to test them, tear them down then build them back up and that's what I was looking for this season with our group. He's a true leader with exceptional athletic ability.

The Redbacks this season will be celebrating our 50th year as a club and will open the year by hosting the Rockingham Flames in the prestigious Len Vlahov Memorial game on Friday March 14,
