Redbacks SBL season commences
The Perth Redbacks State Basketball League qualifying round season commences this Saturday in an away game against the Willetton Tigers.
The Redbacks plan to carry on from its strong form from the 2010 season, in which the men’s and women’s teams both made the semi-finals.
These games promise to be a real litmus test for our State Basketball League teams as both the Willetton men’s and women’s teams won the 2010 championship titles.
This will be the first chance for Redbacks’ fans to see former National Basketball League and European League player Adrian Majstrovic in his first official game for the team.
USA big-man Daniel Maddox has returned for his second season with the club.
The club expects to see great improvement from many of its players that have come through the junior ranks including point-guard Jarrad Jackson and centre Michael Vigor.
Veteran shooting guard Ryan Neill will also be suiting up in what is his eighth season with the Redbacks.
The Redbacks’ women’s team looks forward to seeing the return of ‘talls’ Brooke Hiddlestone and Marita Payne.
It will also be an opportunity for Redbacks’ to see former USA college-player Desiree Delcoure for the first time.
In combination with her sister Kerise this promises to be a tough back-court defence problem for opposition teams throughout 2011.
The women’s game starts at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM at the Willetton Basketball Centre, Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton.
