Meriweather to play in SBL Pre-season Blitz

Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ fans will get to see the clubs new State Basketball League import Jon Meriweather play in a carnival weekend at Kalamunda.

A former US College-player, Meriweather will display his shooting prowess along with impressive dunking skill in the SBL Pre-season Blitz to be held at the Ray Owen Reserve, Gladys Road Lesmurdie.

In a replay of last year’s quarter-final series the SBL men’s team will be playing Lakeside Lightning on Friday 26 February at 8pm on court 1. This will be followed by a game against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at 6:00pm on Saturday 27 February on court 4 and the Bunbury Slammers at 9:00 am on court 1 on Sunday 28 February.

This will also be the first hit-out for the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ women’s team, who will also be playing in the Blitz at the Ray Owen Reserve. Their first game will be against the Stirling Senators on Friday 26 February at 6:30pm on court 5, then against the Mandurah Magic on Saturday 27 February at midday on court 5 and against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns at 10:30 am on Sunday 28 February on court 4.

Semi-finals and the Grand-final will be held on the Sunday afternoon and on the Monday of the long-weekend. Results from the qualifying round will determine whether the Redbacks play in these games.

Entry to the event will be $6 on each day of competition.

Basketball WA has advised that due to State BMX Titles over the Saturday and Sunday all basketball parking will be refused entry from the main entry point on Gladys Road. Entry is available by continuing along Gladys Road and turning onto the Grove Road Entry point, where parking will be available at the rear of the Ray Owen Sports Centre.

Parking on Friday night & Monday will be as per normal arrangements. The State Basketball League recommends all teams and patrons try to car pool to limit the number of cars requiring parking.
