Jarrad Prior

12-3-2009

Many of you will have heard that our son, Jarrad Prior, recently came down with a debilitating and rare medical condition referred to as Guillain Barre’ Syndrome. It is a neurological disorder that strikes the extremities of the body and can at its worst be extremely serious with there being permanent impairment.

It is fortunate to say that Jarrad has been discharged from hospital and the prognosis is that there has been no such permanent impairment or nerve damage and that he will fully recover after a period of recuperation.

We would just like to acknowledge the messages of support received from people throughout the Basketball Community, both within and outside of the club, which has been greatly appreciated by us and Jarrad. It is at times like these when it becomes apparent what a tight-knit community we actually are.

While the main priority is obviously Jarrad’s long-term health we are, though, undoubtedly saddened as parents that for the first time since round five of 2004 the Redbacks’ SBL men’s team will not include him in the team-list. However, we are sure that he will suit up at some time this year when he gets well again.
