With WABL season over for many of our teams we are looking forward to building the Domestic competition and the 2020 WABL season, yes there is very little rest in the Basketball calendar!
It has been a successful year for our WABL program, with several teams and individual players showing great development across the season. With this development in mind, we are asking for your support by joining our domestic competition to continue to strengthen our domestic ranks.
As you may know, we are currently building a business case to support the club as a principal tenant in a dedicated, state of the art basketball stadium. A strong and thriving domestic competition is a key component of our case - we need to demonstrate that the club has exceeded it’s current facilities and that we have the membership base to fill a 6-8 court stadium year round.
As representative WABL players you play a key role in fulfilling these numbers and add to the competitive strength of the domestic competitions – something that is equally important for our long-term development as a club. As a result, we do have an expectation that representative players are registered and playing in a domestic competition to be considered for ongoing representative selection.
Whilst we are moving towards this being a requirement that will be more stringent once we have our own facilities, we understand that our limited court time availability will challenge and place pressure on this compulsory ruling. We also acknowledge that our members have other commitments outside of basketball that warrant consideration for exemption to this ruling.
With this in mind it will be a REQUIREMENT that any player wishing to try out for State Champs or WABL, who is not registered as a current domestic player, must have an approved exemption to do so. The form is attached and if you wish to submit this.
The Victoria Park/Belmont competition has room for additional teams at this stage, get a group of mates together and put a team in, we can help you with places to get a set of shirts together, it can be that simple. It will be a fun and competitive competition this season with a record number of teams and players. We look forward to seeing you on court in our domestic competitions over the summer and express our thanks in advance for helping the club strengthen our case for an inspiring and long-term future.
