The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ Men’s State Basketball League side led throughout virtually the entire game to secure a strong 100 to 91 home-game win over the second-placed Perry Lakes Hawks.

Redbacks’ Point-guard Joel Wagner was the game-high scorer with 25 along with five rebounds and four assists.

Centre Justin Brown was their next highest-scorer with 21 and 12 rebounds while swing-man Bennie Lewis scored 20 and had 10 rebounds and five assists.

However, they were unable to secure a second-win over the weekend going down in a tight away-game to the Willetton Tigers 88 to 91.

The loss proved costly for the Redbacks as they dropped from sixth to eighth place in the 14-team competition with eight wins and seven losses.

Lewis was their top-scorer on 24 along with five assists.

Point-guard Adam Johnson scored 18 and had three assists while shooting-guard Jarrad Prior scored 13.

The Bank of Queensland Women’s team also split the weekend beating the Hawks 65 to 56 while losing to the Tigers 42 to 64.

Redbacks’ centre Marita Payne was the game-high scorer in their win against the Hawks with 20 along with nine rebounds.

Point-guard Rachel Lisch was their next highest scorer with 15 and four assists and three rebounds while point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan scored eight.

Payne was also their highest scorer in the loss to the Tigers with 14 and 10 rebounds while Lisch had 11 and six rebounds.

They now have five wins and six losses and are in ninth-place in the 12-team competition.

The action continues this Saturday when the Redbacks’ meet the Stirling Senators in an away-game at the Warwick Leisure Centre, with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.

This is followed by a home-game on Sunday played at the Western Australian Basketball Centre, Mount Claremont, where the Redbacks’ men’s team meets the Goldfields Giants at midday.
