Redbacks catapult up ladder

The Perth Redbacks’ women’s State Basketball League team moved from 12th to sixth place after winning their two games last weekend.

On Friday night they had an away 59 to 54 win against the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Redbacks’ centre Marita Payne was the game-high scorer with 29 along with 10 rebounds and seven blocks.

Forward Brooke Hiddlestone was their next highest scorer with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Redbacks women then beat Lakeside Lightning 73 to 65 at their home venue on Saturday night.

Hiddlestone was the game-high scorer with 27 and five rebounds. 

Payne scored 10 while bringing down 10 rebounds and making four assists, while point-guard Desiree Delcoure scored nine points.

The Redbacks’ women’s team now has two wins and one loss.

On Friday night the Redbacks’ men beat the Hawks 99 to 96.

Adrian Majstrovich was the Redbacks and game-high scorer with 29 along with 17 rebounds and six assists.

Shooting-guard Ryan Neill was their next highest scorer on 27.

The Redbacks’ men had a tough 92 to 128 loss on Saturday night to Lakeside Lightning.

Majstrovich was the game-high scorer with 35 along with 16 rebounds, while shooting guard Ashley Stephens had 11 points at the strong field-goal percentage of 83.

The Redbacks’ men remain in sixth place in the 14-team competition with two wins and one loss.

The Redbacks play the Eastern Suns on Friday night at the Ray Own Recreation Centre in Lesmurdie with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.

On Saturday night they return to their home venue at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre to play the Stirling Senators, with the women’s game is tipping off at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
