Perth Men Get First Win As Women Get Double
Coach Mal Keene credited the win to a strong overall team effort and excellent fighting spirit. Perth's shooting guard Jarrad Prior was the game high scorer with 27 points and point guard Adam Johnston scored 19 points.
Unfortunately, the men were unable to repeat the winning form in their second game of the weekend against Mandurah Magic going down 66 to 77. Prior was also the highest scorer for Perth in this very defensive game scoring 14 points, with rookie back-up point guard Joel Wagner being the next highest scorer at 11 points.
Perth's women's team played strongly in both of its games beating East Perth 73 to 42 and the highly rated Mandurah team 77 to 66. Centre Christine Boyd dominated in both the games scoring 33 and 34 points respectively, with Brooke Hiddlestone next highest scoring 13 and 17 points. The win sees the men's team in 10th place with 1 win and 3 losses and the women's team in 4th place with 3 wins and 1 loss.
This weekend's SBL action continues on Friday at the Warwick Recreation Centre against the Stirling Senators, with the Perth women playing at 6:30 PM and the men at 8:30 PM.
