Its nine out of 11 as Lady Eagles soar over Slammers

THE East Perth Eagles men and women enjoyed great wins at home last weekend against the Southwest Slammers, with the women winning their fifth game in a row and their ninth out of the past eleven.

An enthusiastic crowd came to Morley Sport and Rec Centre to see both teams play their final home games for the season. The Lady Eagles started slow, falling six points behind, until Opals member Carly Wilson stepped up with eight points and three assists in the second quarter to put the Eagles in front going into the half-time break.

They continued to score most of their points from the keyway in the second half and Wilson and Faye Muller applied the pressure at the defensive end by blocking a number of Slammer shots.

The Lady Eagles were victorious, 57 to 52.

The men’s game started as a tight affair until a seven-point surge halfway through the quarter by Eagles Ben Thompson saw them lead.

Eagles and Australian Boomers’ Stephen Weigh scored the highest points, helping his team beat the Slammers, 101 to 91.

Next week the Eagles play their last game for this season against Lakeside Lightning with the Lady Eagles looking to win their 10th game, making this one of the most successful seasons for the women in recent times.
