McKay to lead Lynx in 2009/2010

Basketball WA and the Go For 2&5 Perth Lynx are pleased to announce the re-signing of Coach Joe McKay. Joe, who led the 2003 Western Australian Under-16 Metro Men's team to their first title for WA in 52 years, has extensive on-field experience as an Australian Rules Player with the South Fremantle Football Club. McKay has led the Lynx since 2007, rebuilding the Club towards what is hoped to be successful 2009/10 campaign.

Speaking on SportFM's Above The Rim radio show last night, McKay said "There's probably a view in the Eastern States that the Lynx are so far away that it's not worth being here. "The Lynx is trying to change that," he said, "Basketball WA right the way through is trying to change that image and that profile and I think we are succeeding at it. I think we are moving ahead in fairly significant steps." When asked about his 2009/10 playing group McKay said "more and more players now see that this program is advancing and they're making decisions to perhaps have a greater emphasis on the Lynx than what they've done in the past and I think that's very encouraging."

Rockingham Flames player Kaye Tucker has also re-signed with the Go For 2&5 Perth Lynx for the 2009/10 WNBL season. Kaye and her Flames squad take on the Perry Lakes LadyHawks tonight at Perry Lakes Stadium and then travel down to Mandurah to play the Magic on Saturday.
