Both Wanneroo teams get up (Week 1 SF Wrap)

WANNEROO'S men's and women's SBL teams both recorded Game 1 semi-final victories on Saturday with Lakeside's men and Kalamunda's women also opening up one-nil leads respectively.

The Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves men's team downed the second-placed Perry Lakes Hawks in Game 1 of the semi-final series with a 107-91 win at Joondalup Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.

Trian Iliadis starred for Wanneroo with 25 points and five assists with Seb Salinas adding 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Rob Huntington also had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves with Damian Matacz adding 18 points and Doug Gates 17.

The Lakeside Lightning were the dominant team right throughout the regular season and started their semi-final series well with a 98-88 win over the People's Choice Eagles on Saturday night at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

Ben Beran top-scored for the Lightning with 27 points and 13 rebounds with Darrel Morgan adding 20 points, Justin Cecil 16 (11 rebounds), Ryan Sofoulis 13 and Jesse Dixon 10. Jarrad Prue also had a big night with five points, 24 rebounds and four steals.

Michael Jones led the way for the East Perth Eagles with 27 points and six rebounds with Drew Williamson adding 18 points, Joe-Alan Tupaea 17 and Tom Jervis 14.

Meanwhile in women's action, the Wanneroo Wolves downed the Rockingham Flames 89-76 in Game 1 of their semi-final series at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Shani Amos led the way for the Wolves with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in an outstanding all-round performance.

Nikita-Lee Martin top-scored for Wanneroo with 25 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists while Chelsea Burns had 10 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Ainsleigh Sanders 10 points and 13 boards.

Veteran Kaye Tucker did all she could for the Flames finishing with 21 points while Darcee Garbin added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Samantha Whitcomb also had 13 points and six boards for Rockingham, and Casey Ware 10 points.

The other women's result saw the Kalamunda Eastern Suns knock off the defending champion Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers 69-53 at Eaton Recreation Centre.

Jennie Rintala top-scored for the Suns with 14 points and seven rebounds with Adrienne Jones adding 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sarah-Jane Knox also had nine points and 13 boards.

Kimberly Sitzmann scored a game-high 23 points for the Slammers to go with 11 rebounds but she was the only South West player to score more than seven points on the night.
