Redbacks’ double-loss

The Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ men’s and women’s teams had away-game losses to the Rockingham Flames in last weekend’s State Basketball League fixtures.

The Redbacks’ men lost 81 to 99 to the 11th placed Flames.

Swing-man Bennie Lewis top-scored for the Redbacks with 25 and eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Power-forward Michael Vigor scored 15 and had 11 rebounds while centre Justin Brown had 25 and eight rebounds.

The disappointing loss sees the Redbacks drop out from a top-four spot into fifth place in the 14-team competition with 12 wins and nine losses.

The score in the Bank of Queensland Redbacks women’s team loss to the Flames was 60 to 70, which sees them with seven wins and 11 losses and in 10th place out of 12-teams.

The Redbacks’ Marita Payne continued with her season long strong form in scoring a game-high 19 along with a massive 19 rebounds and four assists while shooting guard Stephanie Sauter scored 12 along with five assists.

The State Basketball League action continues this Saturday at the Bank of Queensland Redbacks home game venue of the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, when they take on the Eastern Suns in what for both teams are now must-win games.

The women’s game starts at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
