Night of upsets in men's and women's action (Saturday Night Wrap)

The Geraldton Buccaneers upset the men's ladder-leaders Lakeside in Saturday night SBL action with defending champions Cockburn winning a fourth straight math and Willetton's women's team hammering the previously second-placed Rockingham.

The Geraldton Buccaneers now sit in third position on the men's SBL standings after upsetting the top-of-the-table Lakeside Lightning 123-116 on Saturday night at Active West Stadium.

Carter Cook was outstanding for the Buccaneers with 42 points on the back of 18-of-26 shooting from the field. Rob Kampman hit 28 points also for Geraldton, Aaron Ralph 27 and nine rebounds and Daniel Thomas 20 to go with eight assists.

Ben Beran finished with 30 points and nine rebounds for the Lightning despite shooting just 9-of-26 from the field. Justin Cecil added 25 points, Darrel Morgan 19, Brad Jackson 17 and Ryan Sofoulis 11 with Jarrad Prue pulling in another 18 rebounds.

The Mandurah Magic beat the Goldfields Giants 113-92 at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre with Taylor Mullenax hitting 36 points and pulling in 10 rebounds for the Magic.

Aaron Trahair added 17 points on the back of 4-of-5 from three-point range while Thomas Remmerswaal and Taylor Land both scored 11 points.

Russell Hurst had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Giants with Kyle Keirnan scoring 16 points, Matthew Leske 16, Jaycen Herring 11 and Dwayne Radcliffe 10.

The Perth Redbacks beat the East Perth Eagles 105-91 at Belmont Oasis with the Redbacks improving to a 12-8 record to shoot ahead of the Eagles into fourth position on the table.

Bennie Lewis top-scored for the Redbacks with 33 points while also pulling in eight rebounds and seven assists.

Justin Brown had 19 points and 10 boards with Jarrad Prior scoring 16 points, Adam Johnston 12 and Joel Wagner 10.

Tom Jervis did all he could for the Eagles with 33 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Michael Jones had 19 points and Jarrod Balcombe 17 and 10 boards.

The Cockburn Cougars won their fourth straight match to continue their late season charge with the defending champions beating the Wanneroo Wolves 103-100 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

David Reichel top-scored for 27 points to go with 10 rebounds and four assists for Cockburn with Brian Carlwell adding 26 points and 18 boards. Damien Scott added 19 points and Gavin Field 14.

Damien Matacz hit 30 points for the Wolves with Trian Iliadis adding 24, Rob Huntington 14 and Seb Salinas 11.

The Perry Lakes Hawks maintained second position in the standings with a 91-83 over the Stirling Senators at Warwick Leisure Centre.

Michael Lay scored 29 points for the Hawks with Adrian Majstrovich adding 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ben Purser had 14 points and 12 boards, and Rob Cassir 10 points.

Josh Throns did all he could for Stirling with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Wild had 18 points, nine boards and four assists with Cory Cooperwood adding 21 points, 17 rebounds and six assists.

The Rockingham Flames upset the Willetton Tigers with a 110-95 win at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

Steve Bennett hit 32 points for the Flames to go with eight assists, five rebounds and four steals. Cooper Land had 26 points and 13 boards, Trent Gerovich 17 points, Matthew Honey 13 and Travis Moore 11.

Quinn McDowell had 31 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists for the Tigers with Brandon Adams adding 23 points and 17 boards, Mitchell Clarke 14 and 8, and Jacob Reed 12 points.

The Willetton Tigers flew up into second position on the women's SBL table with an incredible 101-50 thumping of the previously second-ranked Rockingham Flames on the road on Saturday.

The Tigers hit 24 points in each of the first three quarters to lead by 11 at quarter-time, 22 at half-time and 34 at three quarter-time before a 29-point final period to end up winning by the massive 51 points.

Melissa Marsh was on fire for Willetton with 26 points and seven rebounds on the back of shooting 11-of-16 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point territory.

Lisa Wallbutton added 25 points, 15 boards and four assists for the Tigers with Antonia Edmondson scoring 18 points and dishing out seven assists. Paris Duffield also scored 10 points.

Samantha Whitcomb finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the disappointing Flames with Cortney Hargreaves having eight points and seven boards as well.

The Perth Redbacks thumped the East Perth Eagles by 30 points with Jessica Jakens scoring 14 points, Gabby O'Sullivan 12, Desiree Delcoure 11, Stephanie Sauter 11 and Marita Payne 10 to go with 10 rebounds, six assists and five blocked shots.

Denielle Lipscombe scored 16 points to go with 11 rebounds for the one-win Eagles.

The Wanneroo Wolves beat the Cockburn Cougars 74-55 as the Wolfpack consolidated their spot on the top of the ladder while the Cougars slipped to a 10-8 record in sixth position.

Chelsea Burns scored 22 points to go with 10 rebounds and five steals for the Wolves with Nikita-Lee Martin hitting 16 points, Ainsleigh Sanders 11 and Shani Amos 10 points to go with 10 boards, four assists and three steals.

Stephanie Jones scored 17 points and pulled in 11 rebounds for the Cougars with Emma Pass adding 13 points and 13 boards.

The Stirling Senators bounced back from a tight loss to the South West Slammers on Friday to beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 66-57 on Saturday.

Samantha Roscoe had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Senators with Taylor Lilley scoring 16 points and Amber Land 15 to go with 17 rebounds and five assists.

Belinda Mayger hit 16 points for the Hawks with Gabriella Clayton adding 12 points and Sarah Donovan 10 to go with eight rebounds. Rosie Tobin pulled in 16 rebounds.
