Eagles want more revenge as Cougars enter nest (Week 11 Men's Preview)

League leaders Lakeside Lightning and the second-placed Perry Lakes Hawks will both be in action when round 11 of the Men’s State Basketball League tips off on Friday night.

But unlike last week, the top two will not be playing against each other.

Lakeside, who held off a determined Perry Lakes in the second half to win the top-of-the-table clash in round 10, host South West at the Lakeside Recreation Centre.

The Hawks visit Belmont Oasis to take on Perth Redbacks, who started strongly but have lost three of their past four games, including a defeat to reigning champions Cockburn last week.

Lakeside will be expected to account for South West, who have struggled for consistency in their results this season and sit marginally outside the top eight despite boasting a 7-6 record equal to that of the sixth-placed Redbacks.

Perth will back up away to Willetton on Saturday night.

The Tigers have also dropped back to the pack after losing three of their past four and will be eager to return to the winners’ list.

South West are another side playing a double-header and will meet Wanneroo at Eaton on Saturday night.

Seventh-placed Geraldton will leapfrog fifth-placed Mandurah if they can beat the Magic at home, while Goldfields and Rockingham will both be looking to stay in touch with the top eight when they meet at the Kambalda Community Recreation Centre.

East Perth meet grand final foes Cockburn for the first time at Morley since losing last season’s decider.

The Eagles gained a tiny bit of revenge for that grand final defeat when they scored a comfortable win over the Cougars in round one this season and will be favourites when they meet on Saturday.

The Eagles sit in third place with a 9-4 record, while Cockburn are still recovering from a slow start and sit outside the top eight at 4-9.

Bottom side Kalamunda have won just one game this season and are on a four-game losing streak, but will fancy their chances of breaking the drought when they host second-from-bottom Stirling.

The Senators haven’t won since round five and hold the record for the longest current losing streak, which reached seven games last week.
