Big night for Tigers in SBL (Friday night wrap)

It was a terrific Friday night in the SBL for the Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers with the women's team routing the East Perth Eagles and the men's line-up handing East Perth its first loss of the 2013 campaign.

Willetton's women's line-up held the Toll Ipec Eagles to just five points for the entire first quarter at Willetton Basketball Stadium to open proceedings on Friday night.

From there, the Tigers went on to record a 60-36 victory with Lisa Wallburton scoring 19 points and pulling in 15 rebounds. Antonia Edmondson added 13 points, Melissa Marsh 11 and Emma Lobb nine.

Jodee Sontay and Nicole Jorre St Jorre both scored 12 points each for the Eagles with St Jorre also pulling in 15 rebounds while dishing out five assists.

Then in men's action, Willetton fell behind by three quarter-time against the previously unbeaten People's Choice Eagles, but the Tigers outscored the Eagles 24-19 in the final period to end up winning 95-90.

Quinn McDowell had a huge night for the Tigers finishing with 34 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Kyle Armour also hit 22 points to go with six rebounds with Brandon Adams also scoring 14 points and 11 boards, Hayden Noordhoek 11 points and Simon Lokan 10 points to go with 12 boards.

Jarrod Balcombe scored 24 points for the Eagles to go with 17 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks from centre Tom Jervis. Drew Williamson added 20 points and Joe-Alan Tupaea 12.

In other Friday night women's results, the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers beat the Lakeside Lightning 63-53 when the Slammers outscored the Lightning 36-24 in the second half after training by two at the main break.

Kimberly Sitzmann hit 28 points and pulled in 15 rebounds in a huge game for the Slammers at Eaton Recreation Centre. Lauren Jeffers added 12 points and eight boards, and Zoe Harper eight points and 12 rebounds. Kara Hargreaves also scored 10 points.

Emily Fielding had 13 points and 11 boards for the Lightning with Krystal Stoneking scoring 11 points, Courtney Byrnes eight and Jessica Beran seven points to go with 10 rebounds.

The Rockingham Flames also downed the Cockburn Cougars 79-72 thanks to a massive 28-18 final quarter to score the come from behind victory.

Samantha Whitcomb had an amazing game finishing with 47 points on the back of 18-of-34 shooting from the field, 3-of-12 from three-point territory and 8-of-12 from the free-throw stripe. She also pulled in 11 rebounds and had four steals.

Kaye Tucker added in 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Flames.

Stephanie Jones scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds for the Cougars with Taryn Friestly scored 18 points and Emma Pass eight to go with 15 boards.

Meanwhile in men's action, the South West Slammers beat the Lakeside Lightning 84-79 despite a fast finish from Lakeside at the Eaton Recreation Centre.

Jamahr Warren hit 23 points and dished out eight assists for the Slammers with Clive Weeden adding 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ty Harelson also had 12 points and seven assists, and Trent Worthington 11 points and seven boards.

Ben Beran had a big game for the Lightning with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Jarrad Prue added 22 rebounds with Chris Sofoulis scoring 13 points and Justin Cecil 12.

The Rockingham Flames prevailed over the Cockburn Cougars 109-96 thanks to a dominant 60-47 second half after scores were tied up at half-time.

Cooper Land scored 34 points and pulled in 18 rebounds for the Flames with Steven Bennett adding 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, Travis Moore 14 points and nine boards, Marko Deric 11 and six, and Trent Gerovich 10 points.

Damien Scott top-scored for the defending champion Cougars with 21 points and 10 boards. David Reichel added 20 points, Jaarod Holmes 19, Steven van Lit 14 and Gavin Field 14 to go with 14 rebounds.
