Prior wins WA Youth Award

BOQ Redbacks State Basketball League player, and former Perth Wildcats development player, Jarrad Prior has been named the winner of the WA Youth Award in the Recreate category.

Jarrad was nominated by the Perth Basketball Association for his community service to basketball and related activities.

The Department of the Communities has summarised Jarrad’s achievements that gave rise to his winning the award, as follows.

Jarrad Prior is respected not just for his basketball prowess but for his qualities which go beyond his sporting prowess.

His list of contributions and service to the basketball in Western Australia is extensive:

  • he is a driving force at the Perth Basketball Association’s Aboriginal Engagement Program;
  • he coaches a WA Basketball League team; and
  • as a part time Perth Basketball development officer has travelled to country towns to share his passion for basketball.

His personal triumphs have also been inspirational.

He was left unable to walk from a serious neurological condition, but through fierce determination recovered and was later signed as a development player with the Perth Wildcats in 2010.

He is genuine, passionate and selfless with the time he gives to others, says the Perth Basketball Association in their commendation of him.”

The BOQ Redbacks’ congratulates Jarrad on winning this award.
