Lightning, Hawks on a mission (Week 5 Men's Preview)

Unbeaten league leaders Lakeside and Perry Lakes will be looking to increase their advantage at the top of the Men’s State Basketball League ladder this weekend.

Willetton and South West Slammers get the round five proceedings underway in a standalone fixture on Friday night after the two other scheduled games were postponed to avoid an unforeseen clash with the National Basketball League grand final.

Lakeside have started the season on a mission, winning their opening five games by an average of 31 points.

The Lightning host Geraldton on Saturday and visit struggling Rockingham on Sunday in games they are expected to win.

Perry Lakes have been nearly as dominant as Lakeside, winning their first five outings by an average of 24 points.

The Hawks visit fifth-placed Wanneroo on Saturday in their only game of round five.

Unbeaten East Perth lead the chasing pack beneath the top two on the ladder with a perfect 4-0 record.

They will be expected to easily account for winless bottom side Kalamunda on Saturday, but face a much sterner test of their wares against Geraldton on Sunday.

The Buccs are 3-2 so far this season and will be out to prove they are a force to be reckoned with in a double-header against Lakeside and East Perth.

South West’s double-header concludes on Saturday at home to reigning champions Cockburn, who have struggled early with just one win in four games.

Perth will expect to beat Rockingham on Saturday, but Stirling and Willetton should be difficult to predict on the same night.

Mandurah Magic will hit the road on Saturday when they face the Goldfields Giants who will be looking to bounce back from a home loss last weekend.
