Wolves remain undefeated (Women's wrap)

Wanneroo are the last team left with a perfect record in 2013 after accounting for Cockburn during round four of the Women’s State Basketball League.

The previously unbeaten Cougars endured a tough weekend, going down 67-57 to the fast-improving Perry Lakes on Friday before being beaten 68-58 by the Wolves on Saturday.

The latter result saw Wanneroo break clear at the top of the ladder with a 4-0 ahead of this week’s big game against the Hawks.

Perth Redbacks broke through for their first win of the season on Friday, snapping a three-game losing streak with a tense 76-73 win over Stirling in a high-scoring affair.

East Perth also broke their duck for 2013, beating South West Slammers 67-55 and handing the reigning champions their first defeat of the season in the process.

Rockingham were last week devastated by the news that star import and reigning league MVP Emma Cannon would not honour her contract to play in the WSBL this season.

Homesick Cannon will instead return to the United States when her season in Germany ends in the next few weeks.

But the Flames bounced back from the blow with an uplifting 67-60 win over local rivals Mandurah courtesy of a game-high 23 points from forward Kaye Tucker.

Lakeside brought Perth back to earth after the euphoria surrounding the Redbacks’ first win of the season.

The Lightning pipped the visitors 64-63 at the Lakeside Recreation Centre on Sunday.
