Semi-Final Schedules Released

The State Basketball League has confirmed the 2012 semi-final fixtures for both the women’s and men’s competitions with game one of the series to be played on August 17/18 and games two and three on August 24/25.

Semi-Final series will be played as a best-of-three series with the first game being played at the lower ranked teams venue and games two and three, if necessary, being played at the higher ranked teams venue.

WSBL matchups will see the minor premiers Wanneroo play the fourth placed Rockingham, while the second placed Willetton and third placed South West will fight it out in the second series.

Wanneroo have not made a grand final since 1995, where they defeated the Swan City Mustangs in the only best-of-three grand-final to be played in SBL history.

Rockingham on the other hand have not played in any of the 24 grand finals throughout the SBL history and have come from missing the finals in 2011 to the top four in 2012.

The other series has two different stories with the defending champions going for their eighth premiership, while the South West Slammers have never appeared in an SBL finals until this year.

In the men’s draw the defending champions Wanneroo will take on the fourth placed East Perth, while the second placed Lakeside will do battle with cross-town rivals and third place Cockburn.

East Perth have never appeared in a grand final and their fourth place finish is the highest in the clubs history, while Cockburn have not appeared in the big game since 2003 and have not won a championship since 1992.
