Teams battle for top spot (Round 19 women's preview)

With just two rounds to go in the women’s state basketball league, there are three teams set to battle it out for top spot with the South West Slammers, Willetton Tigers and Rockingham Flames just separated by one game.

On Friday night Rockingham will hit the road south for a crucial clash against South West which could go a long way to determining the two teams destinies.

Despite South West being one win ahead of Rockingham, the Flames are in strong form on the back of a ten game winning streak and star Slammers import Kim Sitzman is still recovering from an ankle injury.

The Slammers round out their double header weekend on the road when they take on the sixth place Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday, the Eastern Suns are part of a four team pile-up from fourth to seventh.

Willetton Tigers will be confident going into the weekend against Perth, the Tigers are on a five game winning streak, while the Redbacks have lost their past three games while missing Marita Payne and Rachel Watman.

The fifth place Lakeside Lightning are on a three game winning streak and will be looking to continue their push for a top four spot when they host the Eastern Suns on Friday.

Wanneroo Wolves welcomed star WNBL guard Nikita-Lee Martin back into the line-up last weekend and will be looking to keep their winning streak going into the finals.

The Wolves are on the road on Friday when they play the bottom of the table Mandurah Magic in what will be the Magic’s last game of 2012 due to their by in week twenty.

Wanneroo will be looking to Saturdays clash at home with Lakeside as a crucial game to keep the Lightning away from fourth spot, both teams sit with a 12-7 record and will be desperate to secure home court advantage in the finals.

Perry Lakes Hawks have won just one of their past five games, however with two games to go they must win both games and hope that East Perth lose in week twenty if they are to make the finals.

The first of those two games will come this Saturday night when they travel to face the struggling Cockburn Cougars, however the Hawks will have to stop dominant import Stephanie Jones if they are to pick up a win.

Perth Redbacks will also wrap up their season this weekend with a crucial game against Stirling Senators, with the Redbacks needing to pick up some wins in their last two games to avoid being locked in congestion come finals.
