Redbacks women continue run

The Perth Redbacks Women’s State Basketball League team is now in second place following their 75 to 67 home-game win over the 10th placed Cockburn Cougars.

This was their third win in a row, which has seen them move four places up the ladder in the last two weeks with a season record of 11 wins and five losses.

Forward Brooke Hiddlestone was the Redbacks highest scorer with 14, hitting seven from eight shots, along with four rebounds.

Shooting guard Nadia Italiano scored 11 and had four rebounds, two assists and two steals while point-guard Rachel Watman had six assists, eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

Cockburn centre Stephanie Jones was the game-high scorer with 33 from 21 shots along with nine rebounds and three steals.

The Redbacks Men’s team lost to the third-placed Cougars 88 to 100.

The Redbacks US import Blake Bender was the game-high scorer with 27 along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Shooting guard Jarrad Prior had six steals and 14 points while fellow shooting guard Ryan Neill scored 19.

Power-forward Jeremiah Wilson was the Cougars highest scorer with 25 together with 10 rebounds while centre Brian Carlwell had 18 and 12 rebounds.

The Redbacks men now have 11 wins and five losses and remain in fifth place.

The Redbacks play the Perry Lakes Hawks this Saturday at the WA Basketball Centre with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.

This is followed by the State Basketball League Drug Action Week Challenge Game at midday on Sunday at the Belmont Oasis Leisure and Aquatic Centre, when the Redbacks men will play the Goldfields Giants.

Entry is just $2 for adults and free for children to the Drug Action Week game.
