Upsets in men's SBL (Round 8 men's wrap)
There were some big name upsets in round eight of the men's State Basketball League with league number one, the undefeated Lakeside Lightning, going down to the Mandurah Magic 89-76 on Saturday night.
Mandurah's superior shooting accuracy across the board combined with some home crowd magic saw the Lightning finally strike out, ending their nine game winning streak.
After an even 23 point first quarter the Magic controlled the entire game to win by 13 points, Mandurah's Thomas Remmerswaal a dominant force with 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and a double-double from import Taylor Land with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Another Saturday night shake-up was the Goldfields Giants last quarter victory over the Perth Redbacks, ending the game 97-96.
The Giants paved the way to a top eight position after an incredible display of resilience bouncing back to take a one point lead with five seconds left on the clock.
The Giants imports took charge for the side with Darnell Dialls (21 points, 12 rebounds) and veteran Ty Harrelson with 21 points and nine rebounds leading the way.
The Wanneroo Wolves remain undefeated on the road taking down the Geraldton Buccaneers 98-88, another step closer to the top spot for the reigning champions.
Stellar performances from Wolves Sebastion Salinas (31 points, five assists) and Jordan Wild with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
The South West Slammers smashed the Perry Lakes Hawks 101-74 in another upset.
The Slammers plagued the court with incredible offensive pressure from Senario Hillman (30 points) and Carlos White running the back end with 13 defensive rebounds.
A home court advantage saw the Willetton Tigers take down the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 106-83 for the Suns sixth consecutive loss of the season.
The Cockburn Cougars are on a three game winning streak taking down the Stirling Senators 81-67.
The Cougars imports were on fire with a double-double from Jeremiah Wilson (32 points, 20 rebounds) smashing his 22 point season average and centre Brian Carlwell with 22 points, 15 rebounds.
In a bottom four clash the East Perth Eagles defeated the Rockingham Flames 111-101.
The Eagles with a higher shooting percentage from the field and free throw line with the help of incredibly accurate Austin Kisselev (23 points).
