Eagles hold on to send Giants home winless

In Sunday’s men’s action the People’s Choice Credit Union East Perth Eagles just clenched victory over the Silver Lakes Resources Goldfield Giants with a three point win, 93-90.

The first quarter was a close affair with the Eagles and Giants drawing at the end of the quarter 28-28. The Giant’s Ryan Hulme was a standout for his side with 11 points to his name.

The second quarter saw each side trying to grab the lead; and the Eagles’ Tom Jervis excited the home crowd with a few slam dunks.

His accurate free throw shooting was also a highlight for the home crowd- with 8/9 for that quarter- displaying his dominance with an 89% accuracy rate.

The first half proved to be very entertaining for the home side with the Eagles leading the Giants 55-39.

The third quarter started with a bang as the Eagles Jarrod Balcombe kicked off the Eagles’ scoring for the quarter. With the help of Tom Jervis increasing his accuracy rate of free throw shooting to 93% from the line, the Eagles had a lot of reasons to smile.

The score of the third quarter was in the Eagles favour, 76-66.

The Giants drew the game closer in the fourth, with Dwayne Radcliffe and Ty Harrelson helping their side to close down the margin.

In the dying seconds of the game it came down to free throw shooting. The crowd was on the edge of their seats in the fourth quarter to see which side could withstand the pressure and come out on top. As both teams found themselves in team fouls, it was definitely a nail-bitter right to the finish.

The Eagles kept their cool down the stretch and with the help of their supporters they soared to victory and clinched the game.

The Giant’s Michael Haney was fouled out in the closing minutes of the game along with the Eagles’ Nikola Donlagic and the dominant Tom Jervis.

The Eagles led the rebound count-with 53-52- but the Giants bench helped their side with the most points off the bench with 19-12.

Tom Jervis for the Eagles was the highest scorer for the game with 32 points (he finished with a 95% accuracy rate for free throw shooting), while Ryan Hulme for the Giants finished with 18 points for his side and was also dominant throughout the game.

Next week in round seven, the Giants face the South West Slammers and the East Perth Eagles verse the Wannero Wolves. The Giants currently sit on top of the East Perth Eagles after round six, in tenth place while the Eagles sit in eleventh.
