Lightning remain undefeated (Friday wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning have defeated the Cockburn Cougars 92-82 on Friday night to continue their incredible winning streak.

The undefeated Lightning took down the Cougars by 10 points for Lakeside's seventh consecutive win of the season.

Although Cockburn shot the ball better from the field, Lakeside dominated by making 86 percent of their free throws and shooting a better clip from the three point arc.

Lakeside were led by star import Luke Payne (30 points, nine rebounds, four assists) while import Brian Carlwell led Cockburn with 25 points, 14 rebounds, and four assist.

In an unexpected victory the Mandurah Magic made a last minute come back to defeat last years championship winners the Wanneroo Wolves 104-100.

The Magics four point victory could be attributed to their stronger shooting accuracy from the field, the three point and the free throw line.

The Wolves led at every change, however their 10% shooting from outside hurt them as the Magic outscored them 28-15 in the final quarter.

Some dominant court presences were Mandurah's Thomas Remmerswaal (31 points, eight rebounds and six assists) and import Taylor Mullenax with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Wanneroo Damian Matacz was impressive also with 29 points, 16 rebounds and four assists.

In the women’s league the undefeated Lightening took down the Cougars 82-65.

Lakeside's Courtney Byrnes and Emily Fielding were massive contributes with a substantial 22 points each.

Despite a strong offensive effort from Cougars player Stephanie Jones (24 points and 10 rebounds) the Cougars didn't manage to land one three point shot.

The Wolves defeated the Magic 72-58 in yet another blow to Mandurah's season, that being their sixth consecutive loss this season.
