Buccs best basketball around the corner

SUN City Plumbing Buccaneers Captain, Mat Wundenberg said he thinks his side’s best basketball is just around the corner.

Wundenberg and the Buccs are back at Activewest Stadium tomorrow night to tackle the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Following two losses in-a-row on their home floor to Lakeside and Goldfields, Wundenberg said his side is keen to bounce back in front of the Buccs faithful.

“On our night, we have shown we can match it with any team in the competition,” he said.

“They have plenty of guys that can score but I think we will fight fire with fire.

“Ralphy (Aaron Ralph), Michael Lay and DT (Daniel Thomas) are all in good form.”

Wundenberg said the Hawks will be a totally different proposition if Perth Wildcat, Ben Purser suits up tomorrow night.

Purser, Matthew Rosinski and Shane Ross have led the unpredictable Hawks outfit to a three win, three loss record to start the year.

The centre was pleased to see American import, Michael Lay hit his straps with 49 points in Sunday’s win against Rockingham.

“He has been training well but for some reason his percentages in games is not where he wants it to be,” he said.

Wundenberg said fellow American import Morgan Sabia is not far away from taking to the court in the blue and gold.

Buccaneers’ general manager, Scott Rubery said it is a matter of building his fitness base.

“His immigration should be approved by Friday or Monday from the info i have received from Basketball Australia,” he said.

“It is a matter of him getting his fitness level up again and strength back in the muscles around his knee.

“It is looking good but we do not want to rush him into the line up too soon but all reports are excellent he will be good to go very shortly.”
