Hawks bring their own magic (Friday Night Wrap)

Perry Lakes Hawks made a winning start to the men's State Basketball League season, overturning a big deficit to beat Mandurah Magic 104-101.

The Hawks trailed by as many as 12 points and were 11 down with just seven minutes remaining, but new import Matt Rosinski enjoyed a dream debut to get last year's losing Grand Finalist the victory.

Rosinski hit the shot that put Perry Lakes ahead with 25 seconds left to finish with 26 points, while Hawks captain Ben Purser played 22 minutes despite missing more than a quarter of the match as he played in the Perth Wildcats' big win over Townsville across the road at Challenge Stadium.

Taylor Mullenax had 38 points and 12 rebounds for the Magic.

Like Purser, fellow Wildcats development player Michael Vigor missed much of the Redbacks game but Perth still cruised past Kalamunda Eastern Suns 119-85.

Adrian Majstrovich had 31 points and 18 rebounds to lead Perth to the victory, while Greg Palmer and Justin Brown each had 17 points for Kalamunda.

Last year's minor premier Lakeside Lightning thrashed Rockingham Flames 136-89 on the back of import Ben Beran's 31 points.

The Lightning outscored Rockingham 75-42 in the second half, with Luke Payne and youngster Darrel Morgan (both 26 points) also making valuable contributions.

In women's action, the Hawks trailed in the final quarter but came back to beat fellow 2011 finalists Mandurah 62-57.

Chelsey Boyanich had 17 points and seven rebounds to spark Perry Lakes' victory, while the Magic's Tarsha Fletcher also scored 17.

Reigning women's wooden spooners Rockingham also endured a tough start to the new campaign, falling 84-77 to Lakeside thanks to Emily Fielding's 24 points and 11 rebounds.

And Perth beat Kalamunda 56-49 on the back of veteran Brooke Hiddlestone's 18 points and 17 rebounds.
