Hawks swoop for top four spot (Friday Night Wrap)

Perry Lakes Hawks have locked in a top four spot in the men's State Basketball League after coming from behind to beat Mandurah Magic 99-88.

The Hawks could have slipped out of the top four and missed out on home-court advantage for next week's quarter-finals had they lost, but victory ensured they will finish third or fourth.

Even though Mandurah came into the game on a six-match losing streak, it made the much brighter start and even took a 12-point lead at one stage. But the Hawks outscored the Magic 29-13 in the third quarter and took control of the game from there.

Anthony Lee continued his stellar season with 36 points for the Hawks, while Ben Smith had 21 points for Mandurah.

Perth Wildcats guard Drew Williamson helped East Perth Eagles continue their impressive form, leading his side to a 98-91 victory over defending champions Willetton Tigers.

Williamson had 30 points, seven assists and seven steals to lead East Perth to its fourth-straight win.

The Eagles will finish fifth if they can win their last game of the season against Perth, but could fall to as low as eighth spot if they lose.

Import Robert Kampman played almost a lone hand with 37 points for Willetton, which will finish either sixth or seventh.

In women's action, reigning champions Willetton head into the finals on a two-game losing streak after losing 82-68 to East Perth, which was the Tigers' biggest defeat of the season.

Samantha Norwood had 27 points to help East Perth guarantee its top four spot with its eighth-straight win, while the Tigers still finished first and will face Lakeside in the quarter-finals.

And Mandurah took a big step towards securing its top four spot by beating second-placed Perry Lakes 63-52, led by Shelley Boston (19 points).
