Redbacks to tackle Magic in Albany

The Perth Redbacks will be taking their home game against the Mandurah Magic this weekend to Albany in conjunction with the Department of Sport & Recreation.

The game will be played at the recently opened new courts at the Albany Leisure & Aquatic Centre on Saturday 2 July.

Perth previously played Mandurah in Albany back in 2009 in a game that received strong support from the local community.

Redbacks President Gary Prior said that the club was looking forward to the trip.

“Our club likes to take at least one home game to the country-regions each year and we are very pleased to be coming back to Albany after a two-year gap."

"We look forward to strong support from the local community in coming down to watch the games,” he said.

There has been strong support in local community for the Albany Raiders to re-enter the State Basketball League and this game will showcase SBL basketball to the people of Albany.

Basketball WA Competitions Manager Christian Rice believed that the event would be a boost for basketball in the Great Southern Region.

"The Redbacks have shown strong support for regional basketball in previous years and we are glad that they have again chosen to take a game to the city of Albany."

"The SBL looks forward to seeing how the event goes and we hope it is a step towards the continued growth of basketball in the region."

The Women will tip off at 6:00pm and the Men at 8:00pm with entry costing just $10 (Adults) and $5 (Children) for the night.

The Perth Basketball Association will also be running clinics for players, coaches and officials on Sunday 3 July. For more details visit the Redbacks website at www.perth.basketball.net.au
