Cougars sting Redbacks in OT
It took all forty minutes of regulation and another five minutes of overtime for the Lady Cougars SBL side to defeat the Perth Redbacks in a big road victory at the Oasis in Belmont.
With a game that changed leads repeatedly, the Cougars poured on the scoring in the extra time (15-6) and took one more step towards finals.
Import Emma Pass scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds and found major support from Kara Hargreaves (20 pts) and Courtney Hargreaves contributed a double-double with 13 pts and 12 reb.
The "Refuse to Lose" mentality took over in the final minutes as the Cougars trailed by two points with 16 seconds when Emma Pass tied the game with a two point shot.
Then Kara Hargreaves drew an offensive foul on a Redback player sending the game to overtime. In the overtime Courtney Hargreaves poured in 9 of her 13 points to lead the women to 5th place on the ladder.
In Men’s SBL action the Redbacks revenged an earlier season loss to the Cougars as they won 92-83.
The Cougars were led by Stan Ocitti who grabbed a game high 32 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
On his birthday Ocitti did everything he could but the Redbacks held off the Cougars in the final minutes, Sheldon McIntyre chiped in with 12 points.
Cockburn stays on second place on the standings despite the loss.
On Friday June 3rd the Cougars host East Perth Eagles at 6:30 pm at Wally Hagan Stadium, Home of the Cougars.
