Drug Action Week Challenge - $2 Entry

Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks State Basketball League men’s team will be looking to consolidate its recent winning form in this Friday’s home-game against Geraldton Buccaneers.

This game is part of the official Drug Action Week Calendar of Events for Western Australia, designed to promote and enhance community awareness of the harms of alcohol and other drugs.

The key message being promoted for this event is Drug Aware, encouraging awareness of the dangers of taking legal drugs in excess or contrary to medical advice and illegal drugs generally.

To encourage a large crowd, and support in what is more than just a game of basketball but an important community event, entry has been set at just $2 per person.

This promises to be a blockbuster game with the fifth placed Redbacks coming off a recent two-game winning streak, including its recent one-point thrilling win against the third placed Lakeside Lightning.

The Redbacks will need to be at the top of their game to win against the Buccaneers who are currently in top-place and are on a four-game winning streak.

The game is likely to be decided by the outcome of some great match-ups that includes point guard Joel Wagner up against Danny Thomas, off-guard Ryan Neill against Ryan Zamroz, forward Jesse Wagstaff against Matt Wundenburg and centre Daniel Maddox against former National Basketball League player Ben Pepper.

Basketball WA and the Redbacks will also be formally recognising and honouring league-veteran Ryan Neill’s 400-game achievement in what is his first home game since this occurred.

Tip-off is at the unusual Friday-night start-time of 8PM at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, corner Abernethy Road and Alexander Street Belmont.
