Hawks deal Giant blow to Goldfields (Men's Review)

SKILLED Goldfields Giants’ top four hopes took another blow with a 108-94 loss to Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks in the men’s State Basketball League.

Goldfields has lost two straight and three of its last five, which has seen its gap over fifth placed Perth reduced to one win, with Perth having a game in hand.

Peter Crawford led Perry Lakes to the vital win which saw it consolidate its top eight place with 35 points and 13 assists, while Ryan Hulme and John Vaudreuil had 20 points each for the Giants.

Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks did its bit to keep the pressure on Goldfields with an upset 87-86 win at Lakeside Lightning.

Ryan Neil hit the winning shot in the final seconds and had a team-high 27 points for Perth in his 400th SBL game, while Luke Payne had 28 points to lead Lakeside, whose hopes of a top two finish received a big blow.

Lakeside recovered to beat local rivals Cockburn Cougars 104-82, led by Ben Beran (24 points), while Bryce Burch had 18 points for Cockburn.

AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns ended a nine-game losing streak to put a massive dent in Australian Central East Perth Eagles’ finals hopes with a 118-105 win.

Adrian Majstrovich had 55 points and 16 rebounds in an incredible individual performance to help the Suns overturn a deficit with just five minutes left.

Tom Jervis led East Perth with 27 points and 21 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Eagles falling to two losses behind eighth place.

Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves boosted its finals chances and ended Mandurah Magic’s hopes with a 100-91 victory.

Zachary Coverstone top-scored for Wanneroo with 23 while Casey Crevelone had 21 for Mandurah, which is three losses outside the eight.

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers stayed in top spot with a 103-81 win over ATD Stirling Senators.

Ryan Zamroz (37 points) led Geraldton to its fourth straight win, while Ed Morris Jr had 29 points but couldn’t stop Stirling dropping to eighth.

Southlands Willetton Tigers extended its winning streak to five games with a 94-79 win over Rockingham Flames.

Alex Prince continued his great form with 36 points for Willetton, which stayed in second spot, while Carlin Hughes had 23 points and six assists for Rockingham.

Mandurah beat Carpet Court Southwest Slammers 81-74 on the back of a strong performance from Taylor Mullenax, who had 24 points and 28 rebounds, while Jason Miller top-scored for Southwest with 19.
