Redbacks clip Eagles

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ men’s State Basketball League team had a strong 109 to 90 point win today against the 2nd placed East Perth Eagles.

Redbacks’ shooting guard Ryan Neill was the game-high scorer with 30 points along with five rebounds. Perth Wildcats’ player Jesse Wagstaff was their next highest scorer with 26 points and eight rebounds.

Forward Jon Meriweather scored 18 points and 15 rebounds, which included seven offensive boards, while point guard Joel Wagner scored 17 points along with eight assists and two steals.

USA Centre Daniel Maddox scored 11 points at a field goal percentage of 71 as well as four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Small-forward Robert Cassir scored five points along with four rebounds and shooting guard Jarrad Prior had five assists, four rebounds, three steals and two points.

The win sees the Redbacks’ men consolidate their third placed position in the 14-team competition with a season record of five wins and two losses.

The Redbacks’ women’s team lost in extra time in a tough encounter against the 1st placed East Perth Eagles 57 to 67, after the scores were tied at 54 apiece at the end of regular time.

Guard Yasmin Lewis was the Redbacks’ best player with 17-points along with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Playing coach Narelle Henry continued her season long strong form with a game-high score of 22 points along with five rebounds and two assists.

Veteran forward Brooke Hiddlestone scored eight points along with 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals while guard Kerise Delcoure scored four points along with one assist and one steal.

The Redbacks’ women’s team now has a season record of four wins and two losses and is fourth in the 12-team competition.

The action continues this Friday night with the Redbacks’ playing the Wanneroo Wolves at the Joondalup Basketball Stadium, Collier Pass Joondalup with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
