Majstrovich shines for Suns

THE Kalamunda Eastern Suns Men’s State Basketball League team have made steady progress during their initial two years in the league, but things are set to heat up in season 2010.

After a season when the team finished fast to make the playoffs with an 11-15 record but bowed out in the first round, a new coach and new direction meant one player was a must going forward.

With 2009 averages of 27.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and selection in the league All-Star team, Adrian Majstrovich is the man who will be the face of the Suns for the next two years after remaining with the club.

Majstrovich was also the league leader for three-point conversion in 2009 with 44.3 per cent and was the only player to be awarded |multiple league Player of the Month awards.

Debuting in the State Basketball League 13 years ago as a bright-eyed 16-year-old for East Perth, Majstrovich’s career has had him travel all around Australia and New Zealand.

At 19 he completed his rookie season for the Perth Wildcats before pit stops in Brisbane, New Zealand, Adelaide and a second stint at the Wildcats, not to mention a strong showing in the NZ National Basketball League for Hawkes Bay, Wellington and Auckland.

During his distinguished career, Majstrovich has also claimed his share of awards, being named the NZ NBL Rookie of the Year in 2003 and winning the NZ NBL Most Valuable Player the following year.

His performances during the 2009 season for the Suns have the Kalamunda hierarchy excited about the future.

“Adrian is a fantastic athlete, but more importantly he has outstanding character and handles himself with class and professionalism both on and off the court. I am proud to sign a player of Adrian’s calibre.” coach Ashley McCormick said
