Week 2 Saturday night Women's SBL results

THE Perry Lakes Hawks were again strong in Saturday night's Women's SBL action remaining unbeaten to start the season with the South West Slammers and Stirling Senators both impressively opening their accounts as well.

Following Friday night's results to open the round with the Willetton Tigers beating the Cockburn Cougars 96-87 with Stacey Barr delivering 37 points and the Mandurah Magic defeating the Lakeside Lightning 87-77, there were three games in the Women's SBL on Saturday night.

That saw the South West Slammers beat the Perth Redbacks at Eaton Recreation Centre, the Stirling Senators down the Rockingham Flames 95-77 at Warwick Stadium and the Perry Lakes Hawks prevail over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 84-59 at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

Week 2 Friday night Women's SBL results

The Slammers won their first game of the season and under new coach Peter Harper. South West pulled away in the third quarter with 22 points to 11 and that proved the final margin over the Redbacks.

Slammers import Brittany Hodges was the star with 27 point and 20 rebounds on 12-of-21 shooting from the field.

Raya Thompson added 12 points for South West, Courtney Bayliss 10 (eight rebounds, four assists) and Kate Fielding eight (six boards, four assists, three steals).

Emilee Harmon had another good game for the Redbacks with 21 points and 11 rebounds with Rebecca Benson contributing 16 points and four assists, but they did miss Ajay Jones with Lisa Wallbutton scoreless despite collecting 12 rebounds.

Stirling opened its home season on Saturday night with a first win beating Rockingham by 18 points and showing its full array of potency putting up 95 points.

Amber Land did a power of work for Stirling all last year and continued that on Saturday night with 20 points, 21 rebounds, four steals and four assists.

But the Senators' improvement will come with the help she has and Jasmine Martin finished with 13 points, Taylor Roberts 13, Kisha Lee 12 (seven rebounds, three assists), Caitlyn Jones 12 and Maddison Hooper 11.

Jacinta Bourne will enjoy the increased responsibility she has in the Flames team this year and delivered 22 points and nine rebounds against the Senators.

Dena English added 17 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Senators and Amanda Pether eight points and five boards. Chelsea Armstrong had just six points and three assists against her former team shooting 2-of-10 from deep.

Then at Kalamunda, the Lady Hawks pulled away from the Eastern Suns in the second quarter with 26 points to 12 to set up the eventual 25-point victory.

It was a second straight win for Perry Lakes to start the season with Toni Edmondson leading the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Sarah Donovan added 14 points and six rebounds while Emily Burton finished with 12 points, Lauren Jeffers 11 points, five assists and three steals, and Nat Burton nine points, 12 boards and three steals.

The Eastern Suns did welcome Jennie Rintala who had 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Rachel Brooks had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals also for Kalamunda and Rebecca Motroni eight points and four boards.
