THE CAPITALS:

The Lady Caps currently sit 11th on the ladder after three rounds of the QBL, which has included three consecutive away games. During their time away from home, the Lady Caps secured their inaugural clash against competition new comers the Sunshine Coast RIP, claiming victory in a resounding 80-36 score line.

ROUND 4 v South West Metro Pirates (5th, 2-1 record):

In the 2015 Season, the Pirates finished 12th in the regular season with a 5 – 12 record, averaging 69.6ppg for and 84.0ppg against. The Pirates have reversed their fortunes so far this season, increasing their offensive pace with a 82.3ppg average, and holding opposition teams to 74.7ppg. Sidney Parsons has been explosive across the first three rounds of the competition averaging 34.4ppg (incl. 45% from beyond the arc) 6.3 assists per game, 6.0 rebounds and a significant 4.0 steals per game. The Pirates welcomed the return of Erica Carlson last week whom provided significant scoring (22), rebounding (16) and defensive (5 blocks) contributions in their Round 3 victory over SC RIP. Round 4 sees the Pirates take to the road for the first time this season, and they run head first straight into our Lady Caps who are hungry to take on the cross town rivals.

Series Record: The Lady Caps have played South West Metro on four (4) occasions since 2012 and hold the series 4 - 0.

Last Meeting: The Lady Caps last played the Pirates in Rd 8, 2015 on the road securing a strong 97-78 win.

NORTHERN ROAD TRIP:

The Lady Caps travelled to north Queensland last weekend where they faced league leaders Townsville Flames (1st, 4-0 record) and Cairns Dolphins (4th, 2-1 record). Although the Lady Caps came out red hot in the first quarter against the Flames to take the lead by 5 heading into the short break, it was Townsville who were able to arrest control of the game for the final three quarters, including finding their touch from the field to shoot over 50% in the final quarter and taking the contest 79-60. Townsville’s 79 points was there equal lowest offensive output of the season. The Lady Caps felt they took a lot of confidence out of the game against Townsville and were ready to take the challenge to a very physical Cairns outfit. Despite a more consistent performance throughout the game, the unfortunate loss of SEQ Stars recruit Emma Mckenize early in the game as a result of heavy contact put momentum in the Dolphins favor; Cairns pulling away at the end of the game 87-74. Although Lady Caps did not come away with a victory, Head Coach Rebecca Dudic felt there were a lot of positives to take away from the experience including the performances of dynamic backcourt duo Amy Lewis and Heidi Freeburn who combined to average 48.0ppg (44% Field Goal shooting, and 47% from down town), and 13.5rebs per game.

WOODFORD TAKING COURT:

Second year guard, Madie Woodford, is enjoying the extra responsibility placed on her this season by Coach Dudic. Known across Queensland through her junior career with the Brisbane Capitals as a relentless defender, Woodford is reaping the fruit of her labor increasing her productivity for the team across most statistical categories; providing the Lady Caps with a valuable contribution from the bench. Madie currently averages 6.8ppg (on 40% field goal shooting) 3.3rpg, 2.8apg and 1.8spg.

SBL Women: The Brisbane Capitals SBL Women’s team are also at home this weekend, welcoming the Caboolture Suns (10th, 0-3 record) to NAB Stadium. Tipoff is scheduled for 2pm.
