QBL SEMI FINALS

Saturday night saw the QBL Semi Finals take place around the state, including our own Global Product Search Meteorettes and McDonald's Meteors.

The Globla Product Search Meteorettes travelled down to Logan Thunder in Brisbane on Saturday night in their semi final matchup. The Meteorettes came out in the first quarter and dominated the early stages of the game taking a commanding 31-17 lead into the first break down. This early onslaught proved pivotal as the rest of the match was a fairly even affair.

The Mackay girls kept heir 14 point buffer at the half, which was then only trimmed by one point in the third period before running out 80-67 victors. This result places them in the grand final series starting on Friday night and to be played at Southern Districts who accounted for Gladstone in the other semi.

Nadeen Payne was dominant for Mackay tallying 32 points and 18 rebounds for the game. She was ably supported by Chavy Paalvast and Michaela Cocks with 13 points apiece, Jillian Haughton with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Tami Willey with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

McDonald's Mackay Stadium was at capacity on Saturday night for the Mens Semi Final between traditional rivals the Rockhampton Rockets and the McDonald's Mackay Meteors.

The Meteors started fast with Lucas Walker on fire from deep before the visitors settled and had a 5 point lead at quarter time despite a spectacular buzzer beating dunk from Lukass Blicavs.

The second quarter proved to be quite an even affair before the Meteors went on a mini run entering the half time break to snatch a 4 point lead at oranges.

The third quarter proved similar to the second with both teams sharing momentum swings and at 3 quarter time the game was there to be won by both teams the Meteors holding a 72-69 advantage.

With the game on the line in the fourth period the crowd was at fever pitch in the electric atmosphere of a sold out "Crater" and the locals used this to their advantage. Luke Harvey had a pivotal stretch of above the rim play and some key 3 pointers from the Meteors seen them take out a 106-90 victory, much to the delight of the local crowd.

Lucas Walker was immense coming back from injury to lead the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Shaun Bruce dropped 18 points and gave out 9 assists with 6 rebounds, Chris Cedar had 18 points and 7 assists and TJ Diop had 14 points and 8 rebound, whilst the coach Cam Tragardh had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Off the bench Luke Harvey was outstanding in scoring 12 points on 5/6 shooting.

The McDonald's Meteors will play old foe Townsville in the grand final series starting in Mackay on Friday night.
