TOUGH LOSSES AT THE CRATER

Friday night at McDonald's Mackay Stadium proved to be a tough one for the local teams in QBL action with both sides suffering narrow losses to Brisbane in front of a record crowd.

First on deck the Global Product Search Meteorettes faced a tough assignment against a Brisbane team currently in a purple patch of form and the game was a nail biter from start to finish.

The local ladies held a 2 point lead at quarter time, which was trimmed to a solitary point at the main break. In the third period the Meteorettes had the best of it and took a 5 point lead into the last change. In the fourth quarter though, fatigue and injury slowed the Meteorettes performance and Brisbane snatched a 73-72 win.

For the Global Product Search Meteorettes Tami Willey had an outstanding 21 points and 17 rebounds, Nadeen Payne had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Jacqui Zelenka fought injury to add 15 points. A positive perfromance was that of point guard Sara Storeshaw who chipped in with a valuable 10 points and 3 assists and team captain Jillian Haughton managed 9 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists.

The McDonald's Meteors then took to the court against the high flying Brisbane Capitals team in a much hyped contest. Nobody can feel disappointed with the action that took place in a high quality game of hoops.

The visitors slightly had the upper hand in the first quarter holding a 3 point lead before exploding with a barrage of 3 pointers in the second term to head to the sheds with a 14 point advantage. Brisbane extended their lead out to 21 points early in the third before the Meteors came storming back to only trail by 4 points at the 3 quarter time break.

The fourth quarter was fantastic, with both teams making clutch shots at crucial times as the momentum swung back and forth. The Meteors finally tied the game at 98 all with just over a minute to go, but the effort to get back into the contest took its toll and Brisbane ran out 108-100 victors.

Lucas Walker had 27 and 18 rebounds, Shaun Bruce had 30 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists and Chris Cedar had 20 points.
