20 Referees at Maitland Referee Course

20 young people attended a Level 0 referee’s course at Maitland on Saturday to obtain their level 0 referee badge. All referees were given a whistle courtesy of the NAHYDT. There was a strong focus on fouls and also on court positioning, with all being able to experience what it is like to be a referee. All of the new rules were also integrated into the course, with participants actively working in groups to educate each other. All attendees passed and will be commencing their development this week.more

Round 1 CJL Referee Support

The NSW Junior Basketball state championships got underway on the weekend the young referees were well supported at the Niagara park venue where the under 12’s and 14’s had a central venue for round 1. Jenny Shepherd (the league referees coordinator) and Sue Martens were actively involved all day coaching the referees throughout their games. It was pleasing to see the efforts being made by the new breed of referees as they adapted to some of the new rules Well done and a huge thanks to Jenny and Sue. 2009 February Maitland Referee of the Month Craig Goodman

Brodie Musgrove is Cessnocks Referee of the month for February. Brodie is a dedicated and hard working young man who is always willing to do his share when needed. 2009 Another Success at Maitland Basketball Association

By all reports a big day out at Maitland Basketball Association at the Referee Workshop held 31st January. Forty Referees from the CJL assisted by Debbie and Bruce Keirs, Russell Potter, Sue Martens, Jenny Shepherd, Mark Harris and Joe Kelly were bought up to date on the latest referee rules.
