QBL women in quarter final!!

After some indifferent form in the middle of the season, the Force surge into the Finals having won four of their past five matches. Last week the Force hammered Maroochydore 92-53 in their first game of the Round, and then came from behind in the fourth quarter to record a narrow 64-62 victory over South West Metro the following day.     Despite not affecting their overall standings, the Force’s win over South West was an important one as they showed that they can win without star player Emma Langford, who will miss Ipswich’s finals campaign. In Langford’s absence, Courtney Taylor stepped up to record a season high 22 points against South West. Taylor and experienced guard Amber Bartels, will both have to keep producing big numbers, if the Force are to feature in the Grand Final.

Northside, last year’s Grand Finalists, limp into the finals after having lost their last four matches by an average margin of 28 points. The Wizards’ cause has not been helped by a horrendous injury toll, which sidelined their most influential player Rachel Maenpaa for the last few games of the regular season. In Round 14 the Wizards were soundly beaten by the Capitals, with only Katie Harris managing to crack   double figures for the match. However, none of this will matter if the   Wizards win this match as they will then have renewed confidence and be on their way to the Semi-Finals for the second year in succession.

Ipswich and Northside met back in Round 11, with the Force prevailing 67-63 in a see-sawing encounter. Ezria Parsons was huge for the Force in this game, with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Buoyed by the return of Maenpaa for this match and with Langford now gone, the Wizards will look to limit the involvement Parsons, who is now the Force’s primary point scorer and rebounder. If the Wizards can do this they may be able to spring an upset.
