North Shore ‘Jets’ U18 2011

The club conducted an information night for prospective U18* players on Wednesday, 3rd November. In what was a very well attended meeting, it was pleasing to be able to welcome many new players to the Club.

With construction of a $4.2m Community Centre due to commence this week it is an exciting time for our Club. This construction will incorporate an upgrade to the fully lit field (i.e. formerly the baseball field), which includes a ‘full size’ AFL oval. Our current playing surface has just been aerated, so everything is looking very positive for the future growth of the North Shore Club.

Much consideration has been given to which competition will best suit our 2011 U18 team. The options have been:-

1.         Brisbane ‘Elite’ Division 1 – an option being pursued by Caloundra and Maroochydore (Noosa are already playing in that division – their team contains 11 rep players incl. 3 state players and they finished in the Top 4 of the competition).

Playing in this division will require travel to venues including Tweed/Coolangatta, Broadbeach, Labrador, Southport, Redland and Toowoomba – a considerable amount of travel to play against extremely strong opposition.

2.         Brisbane ‘North’ Division – a lesser standard competition against clubs such as Nambour, Bribie, Caboolture, Redcliffe and Wynnum.

Our Club will enter the Brisbane ‘North’ Division, which will not only better suit our likely standard of play (i.e. our team will be made up of predominantly of first year players), but will provide us with a relatively light travel schedule.

All U18 matches will be played at 2 p.m. on Sundays, which will enable the players to plan in advance at the beginning of the season.

Once again, welcome to all of our U18 players. Don’t forget that the first training run is set down for 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, 25th November.

Eligible players wishing to be a part of the inaugural “Jets” Under 18 team should contact Warren Selvage (President).

* Eligible players are born in 1993 & 1994 (with dispensation considered for any players who are still 18 yrs old on the 30th June 2011).
