The Gold Coast Sunsets put on a courageous performance for spectators at the weekends U 17 Youth Girls State Championships at Yeronga.
The Girls went into their first game on Friday night feeling fresh and confident, and rightly so defeating the North Queensland Lions 7.7 (49) to 1.3 (9).
Showing early dominance from the Sunsets was Wendy Bristow kicking two, whilst Captain Zoe Lattanzi led the team by example.
The Girls next game was 4pm Saturday against the Brisbane Flames. Fighting until the dying second, the girls were unfortunate to come away with a close defeat.
Sunday sore temperatures rise again to above 30 degrees, making conditions gruelling for day three of competition. The girls participated in fitness testing in the morning session before eagerly getting stuck into the deciding matches.
The Sunsets fought a tough battle against the South West Magpies fighting it out for third position. In the end the Sunsets were undermanned from injury but gracious in their defeat.
The Stand out performance of the weekend from the Sunsets was Beth Pinchin, winning team MVP for her tireless efforts and precise skills.
