On Friday night 46 AFL Gold Coast Juniors players from the under 11's age group were lucky enough to get a one off opportunity to walk out with the players and stand in front of them before the national anthem.
The night started when all 46 children met inside gate 1 before making their way into the change rooms. The boys had a lot of mixed emotions but the main one being excitement.
7.30pm came and we got the call to make our way into the race to be ready for the players to walk out. In the lead up the boys couldn't stop talking and moving around but it was as soon as they saw the first player walk down the race the boys were dead silent and very still. The players from both Australia and Ireland walked out holding each of the boys hands.
Once the national anthems were completed and the boys had walked back up the race and into the change rooms they were on an immediate high and couldn't express their thank you's any more than they did.
All in all it was a successful night for all the children involved and a memory that will live with each of them for the remainder of their life.
Thank you to all clubs for supporting this event and helping organise the kids.
A big thanks to Tony Gietzel and Rodney Cameron for there assistance on the night.
